Cozy Cottage on Cemetery Beach-away from the crowds-Amazing beach & snorkeling! | Cottage in West Bay

2 Bedroom Cottage in Seven Mile Beach, West Bay
Get away from the busy resort area! This cozy, 2 bedroom/2 bath, authentic beach cottage is located on Cemetery Beach (one house back from the water); a quiet, little slice of paradise called Emerald Bay. It's perfect for your family's Caribbean holiday. Walk just steps to one of the best beaches on island that is well known for it's tranquil, crystal clear water, fantastic snorkeling and spectacular sunsets.
It has 2 bedrooms, 2 baths and sleeps 5. With a full kitchen and outdoor grill, you can conveniently prepare meals in or take a picnic lunch to the beach. A spacious front porch is a perfect spot for morning coffee or evening dinners with a beach and water view that is just as peaceful as it is beautiful.
The cottage is located in one of the most beautiful areas on island; minutes to some of the best restaurants, resort area of SMB, area attractions, and just 15 away from George Town and Owen Roberts Int'l Airport (GCM).
Walk to the grocery store, liquor store, 3 restaurants, diner and bus stop. Minutes to some of the best restaurants on island, Cayman Islands Yacht Club, the resort area of SMB and area attractions. It's also just a 15 minute drive from the airport.
The cottage is stocked with beach equipment, chairs, beach towels (and of course bath towels) and umbrellas. There is high speed internet, CATV, powerful air conditioning and comfortable beds. You will need to be careful in the tropical Cayman sunlight. The prevailing breezes mitigate the temperature, even in the Summer, so it’s necessary to take care in the powerful sun as you don’t immediately feel its effects. Ample market umbrellas stocked in the cottage help dampen the effects of these warming rays. SPF 70+ for you of Northern European ancestry!
Emerald Bay was the name given to this bucolic little patch of beach and ocean over a century ago. Today, little Swift Lane, hosting just four private homes, is the only residential entryway to Emerald Bay. Nestled proximate to several of the island’s premier estates, #22 Swift is a quaint Cayman Cottage with all the amenities to make your stay memorable. A private, deeded easement and walkway bisects the aforementioned estates to the short 200 feet to the beach and Caribbean Sea.
This beach is part of and perhaps the best of Grand Cayman’s world renowned Seven Mile Beach. These crystal-clear waters avail some of the world’s best snorkeling just150-200 feet WSW offshore from the cottage where Cemetery Reef waits for your scuba or snorkeling visit. Sample the salubrious effects of these sparkling waters. Curiously, only on a man’s first dip will he feel the slight sting of the Cayman salinity on his clean-shaven face (or a woman to her legs if she shaves them). The waters immediately heal the micro abrasions from shaving such that the next day, no sting (that is until the first dip of the next visit). Immediately one notices the Caribbean buoyancy which further demonstrates this salinity. The surface layers of the waters are bombarded by copious sunlight, this coupled with the natural salinity make it more difficult for zoo and phytoplankton to live in the shallows. The unique reason for the distinctly clear waters which make Grand Cayman the diving capital of the world – no silt or dirt deposited into the waters during rainfalls. There are no mountains or even rivers here. Make it your personal snorkeling adventure park.
This little piece of paradise lies just over the George Town line in West Bay. In the past decade, West Bay has become home to numerous thriving restaurants and convenient markets.
This town has all of the comforts of larger citified George Town without the hubbub. The community of West Bay on the Northwest arm of Grand Cayman is a thriving town sited on the northern limit of Seven Mile Beach. It is a delightful nexus away from the crowds associated with the popularity of Cayman as a port-of-call for luxury cruise ships, yet just a ten minute car ride from George Town should one wish to avail its teeming tax-free retail outlets. Even closer is the fabulous, must-visit Camana Bay, the emerald city beautifully developed by the Dart family mega-entrepreneurs, also boasting tax free shopping venues.
The recently wholly renovated Cayman Yacht Club (yet another midas-touch Dart development), just off the neighboring roundabout, hosts two outstanding restaurants; Bacaro serving a range of tapas conveying the fabulous symbiotic juxtaposition of it’s Hungarian and Venetian co-founders, and Morgan’s Grill with it’s fulsome bounty of seafood and fresh catches. Both of the latter showcased in lovely, purpose-built lofty and airy venues squarely exposed to the refreshing sea breezes wafting from the West Bay portion of North Sound. A little further up the road in Batabano one finds the twin excelsiors of Cayman seafood restaurants - The Calypso Grill and Catch. Nestled next to them on the docks at Morgan’s Harbour are the jaunty and sleek sportfishing craft that power out past the reefs into the open sea to bring in those deep water fish all of us enjoy. Here one can also hail a fishing charter.
Just down the beach (or quick jaunt on the overpass) are the sumptuous resorts of the Kimpton Sea Fire, Ritz and Westin. At these one may rent a panoply of water craft, sailboats, water ski rides, jet skis, parasail rides etc. Directly opposite the Westin, pop over to Sunshine Grill for their famous fish tacos. For the younger set and young-at-heart, the rustic beach bar Coconut Joe’s is adjacent to the Kimpton.
In the other direction on the beach or by car is the town of West Bay with a Foster’s Supermarket between us and the four corners, a large Jacque Scott wine emporium abuts the Lovely Boggy Sands Caribbean Café (try their Jerk chicken pasta) and other world-class restaurants are within an easy drive. See our check-in instruction sheet for more detail.
Further down West Bay Road turning smartly left at the West Bay Public Beach takes one on the road to the famous Cayman Turtle Farm with the Dolphin Adventure across the street. Across from the turtle farm, Macabuca is a lively bar, it’s iron shore base jutting into the waters off Northwest point daring the waves to splash you. Up above, high and dry is the Cracked Conch boasting an elegant menu. Nearby is a Tortuga Retail Cayman Spiced Rum store in case you get drenched at Macabuca.
Come join us, we know we’ll also welcome you back next year!
