Positive: This is probably the best capsule hotel I’ve stayed in. Has just about all the facilities you could ask for (bath, private showers, lounging area with an endless manga collection, as well as some other goodies like beer on draft for a fee) and they’re all very clean and modern. Very friendly and helpful staff that can speak English and Japanese well (I think they were speaking Hindi with another guest when I got there as well). They explain everything very well and it’s a very straight forward and secure system for getting into the rooms. The capsules themselves are pretty spacious in terms of capsules. I’m a bit over 6ft (186cm) and I fit fine. There’s also a tv, working lights and outlet, and a little fan in there as well as a little cubby to stick your shoes. I think the best part though is the location. The hotel is right by Ichigaya station which is one of the nicest I’ve seen in Tokyo. While there’s not a ton of shops nearby, there was a nice cafe as well as a street not too far down the road with a bunch of nice restaurants and bars. But if thats not enough, you can easily get to any of Tokyo’s more popular hubs directly from Ichigaya station. So you can stay in a more quiet laidback location and within 10 minutes be in downtown Shinjuku or Shibuya. I even was able to take a 30 minute train all the way out to Disney.
Negative: It’s a capsule hotel which means that your experience is always gonna come down to luck on who you’re bunking with. Unfortunately, the soundproofing is pretty standard and if someone nearby is snoring, you’re gonna hear it. My lovely neighbor snored like a lawnmower and I’m a sensitive sleeper. Tough to say who’s more to blame for choosing a capsule hotel but it woulda been nice if the pods themselves came equipped with a fresh pair of earplugs as standard just in case. Other than that I found the storage place for luggage to be quite small. It was filled up by the time I got there so I decided to just keep my bag in my pod with me. Other than that everything was nice.
