Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: Beautiful, new, well-appointed cottages with a nice pool and lovely landscaping. The staff was apologetic about the driver not showing up at the airport and offered free bike rentals for the inconvenience. We told them we were happy to pay for rentals and services. We simply expected dependable service.

Negative: Unreliable service. We arranged transportation to the island through the hotel, but there was no driver when we arrived. When we called him, we found out he was 20 minutes away. He said his friend was at the airport and would pick us up so we wouldn't have to wait. We still waited almost half an hour for his friend, who was obviously not at the airport. About halfway to the port (it's about an hour and a half from the airport), we stopped on the side of the road to finally meet our driver and switch to his vehicle. Thankfully, there was a boat waiting at the port. When we arrived on the island, no one was there to meet us. We made our way toward the hotel on our own and, a couple hundred meters before we reached it, ran into hotel staff on the road. They were late coming to meet us, even though we had already been delayed because of the transportation debacle. Also: The road to the hotel is in terrible shape. A dirt road would be better than this badly pockmarked, once-paved road. The room safe didn't work. We reported it, but nothing was done. One day, housekeeping took our bath towels but didn't replace them. One of the water glasses provided in the room was not clean. We were woken up at 3:24 a.m. when someone (staff, guest, or random stranger?) rang the bell. By the time we opened the gate, nobody was there. We will not be returning. There are plenty of other lodging options on the island with cottages and facilities that are just as nice, or nicer, and provide far better, more reliable service.
