Samay is an Ecohostel surrounded by rainforest in the Putumayo department, located at the very beginning of the Andes mountain range and the outskirt of the Colombian Amazon. Our motivation is to provide a space where one can spend some peaceful time in harmony with nature. In order to make this world a little greener, we use as little recources as possible based on recycling more than throwing away the trash we produce. On the property we have a huge diversity of local plants, e.g. herbs and fruits that are free for exploration and consumption. In the middle of the garden there are two fishponds, one of them partly covered by a roofed platform that can be used for camping or relaxing. We have our own natural swimming pool down a short jungle path from which you can see the Rio Mocoa flowing. In the front yard there is a small shop where you can find tourist information about the area and local handcrafts as a souvenir. Also there is a parking area and a playground for children in the garden as well as roofed areas to eat and relax for grownups.
Hostal Samay is around the hostel there are various possibilities to explore the beauty of Putumayo. We offer tours around the area, and also provide contact to other guides as well as indigenous people to get to know more about the culture and all the places that are worth seeing. There are many beautiful waterfalls to be visited, the best examples for sure are Fin del Mundo and Ojo de Dios. Each of them can be reached within 1 ½ hours of walking through the forest and over bridges crossing the Rio Mocoa. The way there is an adventure by itself, as you can observe pure nature and tropical animals surrounding you.
Furthermore there is the Canyon Mandiyaco close by, a mariposario called Paway and the C.E.A., a zoo and a rehabilitation for tropical animals.
Last but not least sports enthusiasts will be able to find various activities such as hiking, climbing,biking, horse back riding, kayaking, paraglyding and many more
Besides the camping area we offer beds and hammocks for sleeping. On the first floor we have two rooms with one double bed each and one shared bathroom with a shower, as well as a living space with hammocks, a couch and a TV. On the second floor there is one room with three double beds and two single beds, access to a balcony as well as a shared bathroom with shower.
Additionally, there are hammocks outside the house to be used as sleeping or relaxing opportunities. The third toilet and shower are outdoors as well as the kitchen, which is fully equiped with a gas stove and a fridge to store and prepare your meals. Aside from that, the hostal provides WiFi and a washing machine and is a non-smoking area.
