Positive: We spent one week at Villa Macria in the end of June. There were plenty of things to like about the place. Some are more general and some are more specific and connected to the fact that we travelled with a small child (11 months). We stayed in one of the apartments on the second floor. The balcony view over the garden, the sea and the Stromboli was great. There are however more reasons to love the balcony. First of all it's really big, probably 20 sq.m., secondly it is beautifully framed with flowers, thirdly it has a gate which allows small children to walk freely and their parents to relax. The appartment itself is new, three or four years old, and has everything you usually find in Italian apartments (a great bath room but no microwave oven). The garden is big and full of fruit trees (lemons, figs, plums, apples...) and is equipped with a couple of swings, a grill, sunbeds and an outside shower. The couple running the place live next door and are great hosts. They speak only Italian, but the sons speak good English.
Negative: There are great choices when it comes to beaches. We shared our time between Grotticelle and Tonno. You however have to plan for transport. Either you come in your own car or you rent a car, a cooter or bikes in Capo Vaticano.
